Today's Inspiration

"If you're feeling low, don't despair. The sun has a sinking spell every night, but it comes back up every morning. The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain."

Peace! - Linocut Artwork

I saw a picture of a man on my desk this evening. I was just wondering whose drawing was that. Then I asked my little brother but he didn't know. Instead, he passed over me and went to sleep (geez!!). After a while, my younger sister came to my room and asked where 'the picture' is. So, I gave it to her and asked how to make one. She explained that the artist used a linocut technique to make the artwork.

Linocut is a printmaking technique, a variant of woodcut in which a sheet of linoleum (sometimes mounted on a wooden block) is used for the relief surface. A design is cut into the linoleum surface with a sharp knife, V-shaped chisel or gouge, with the raised (uncarved) areas representing a reversal (mirror image) of the parts to show printed. The cut areas can then be pulled from the backing. The linoleum sheet is inked with a roller (called a brayer), and then impressed onto paper or fabric. The actual printing can be done by hand or with a press.

As the material being carved has no particular direction to its grain and does not tend to split, it is easier to obtain certain artistic effects than with most woods, although the resultant prints lack the wood character of wood block printing. Linoleum is also much easier to cut than wood, which must be carved away, but the pressure of the printing process degrades the plate faster. It is also difficult to create larger works due to the material's fragility. (source: wikipedia)

Our Own Couple Tee: Special Post

A few weeks ago I was busy preparing a birthday present for my girlfriend. I came up with an idea to create a caricature of herself. I been practicing a lot to create a not-so-good-but-easily-identifiable-visual-likeness caricature. I was almost frustrated because none of my drawings were look alike. A total failure, like this one, when the deadline was getting tighter. Last week, I said to myself, "this is my last attempt. If I fail, then I am gonna buy her something else."

The rough sketch wasn't good enough, but look alike ;) I created it on my phone then exported it to Adobe Photoshop. Here, I made some huge changes to the detail of her face. Here are some of the screenshots during the making of her caricature.

Violaaa!

I managed to create a caricature of her. Next, I remembered that she really wanted to have a tee of her caricature on it. So, I created a concept of the tee like this one.

After finishing the concept of her tee, I went to a digital printing workshop to make the tee. The result was good enough. So, I met her on Sunday, June 17 2012, which was her birthday, to give her this present. She really liked the tee and was very excited to put it on right away.

One thing she didn't know was that the tee has a pair. She once asked me why there was such a text "He likes England". Then I told her, "You'll see, hunny." Then we went to the digital printing workshop again and here we go, the other tee.

She really was surprised that it's a couple tee. I still remember her expression when knowing it was a couple tee. After putting on the tee, we went to some places to spend some time together. June 17 2012 was her birthday, and the day before I went to Hong Kong.

"It's a special gift", she said.

Kick a Ball - A Short Animation

Hello there, I am back with a new blog post. Today I am posting a short animation I created using flipaclip application for Android device. This is a nice app for those who love animation and drawing like I do.

Best part for me ;)
The animation is only about 7 secs, but it takes more than 60 frames to create such animation; and it takes about a day for me to finish the whole animation (*well, this include eating, picking up my girl and working at the office, ups!). Please enjoy it while I am making another animation. Hope it will be much better than this one. A bigger project is coming. Stay tuned, guys! ;)

Caricature: Fail

I've been very productive lately, which is good for driving traffic and dragging visitors to my blog. Anyway, yesterday I drew a caricature of my favorite female singer, and posted it on Facebook. I asked my friends to guess who she is, otherwise I received comments that really made me laugh.

This is done with my Samsung G-Note

These are their comments...

Sorry if the comments are in my language. But I have marked their guesses with rectangular lines; Will Smith, City, Trina, Sule, Ledi Gaga, Syahrini, Jessie J, and Ariel?

Okay, I have seen enough of their comments, and I can be 100% sure that the caricature I drew is a total failure. The singer I mentioned above is this one:

Taylor Swift

Homeless Children

The elder sister is looking after her two little brother and sister.
These homeless children can be easily found at most traffic lights during your way back home. Seriously, it is a very sad scene I have ever seen at the place where I usually go back home from work. These children are supposed to have a home, go to school, play with their peer friends and live with their family rather than work and sleep on the street. They lose out on a chance to have a decent childhood.

This photo is intended to the f*ckin' government which supposed to be responsible for their life. As we all can see that the government only cares about their own ass or talking shits about Lady Gaga's concert in Jakarta. Dude, look down! There still plenty of people you should take care of!

*Sorry for those who works for the government; I sincerely don't have any intention to offense you. I know there are many good and kind government servants.

Long Weekend Day I: The Journey Begins

Again, this blog is abandoned for more than a month; what a pity. Anyway, I have been preparing this blog as the place to post the full story of my long weekend trip last week. Well, there have been lots of things happened during my long weekend holidays; from shopping to losing my brand new pair of shoes.

Me - Friska - mba Ambs - Lexy - Reza
It was all started in my office at Mega Kuningan. Yes, I had to finish the work before going on holidays. It was Wednesday last week when we began the journey. I and my colleagues had planned to visit our neighbors, Singapore and Malaysia, to spend our long weekends. This isn’t the first time I visited Malaysia, especially Kuala Lumpur. I’ve been there once with my peeps and we had a tiring but great time during the trip.

Anyway, we arrived at the airport at 6.10 pm to check-in and went straight ahead the immigration hall in order to board. At first I thought I could browse on the internet or just updated either my facebook or twitter status, but it turned out that there was NO Wi-Fi connection in the place. Yes, there was no Wi-Fi connection. I just could smile at how pathetic this International Airport for not having any Wi-Fi connection in the boarding room at all. So while I was waiting, I spent most of the time drawing an old man sitting in front of me. He was on his sixties or something, I guessed. The old man put his luggage under the seat and starring around the boarding room as if it was his first time traveling with an airplane.

I forgot to draw the luggage... :))

Keepin' In Touch

I've been separated with her for more than two weeks. I know this ain't gonna be easy, since neither of us have been in such situation before. But I believe there are  plenty ways to maintain our communication so that we can keep up to date to each other. Well, this is how we keep in touch... ;)

"Distance is not for the fearful, it is for the bold. It's for those who are willing to spend a lot of time alone in exchange for a little time with the one they love. It's for those knowing a good thing when they see it, even if they don't see it nearly enough..."

"No matter how far apart we are, we will always be together. I carry you in my heart every second of every day."

The Dancing Lights

I have a lot of really fun times in Hong Kong, and this Saturday night has to be one of my favorites! The light symphony was a beautiful spectacle, with the lasers and the spotlights dancing about to the sound of music.

Every night at 8 P.M. all the buildings in Hong Kong start playing to the sound of music and lit up one after another to compose what they call a "symphony of lights". I went to Tsim Sha Tsiu waterfront in Kowloon (one of the best places) with my Thai friend, Tns Snt Pommy, to spectate the beautiful lights.

There were so many people from all over the world came to watch this 14 minutes show. I pulled in the place at 7.30 P.M. and found a best spot to hear the live orchestration of music and narration before the show began. Please read more to see the video of the symphony lights ;)

Sour Sally Time

Last week I had a supper with my hunny. We went to Sour Sally to enjoy some chill nite before going home after work. She was a little bit upset at first since I almost forgot my promise, but eventually it was a nice and delighted one, tho.
